Nail polish remover... the acetone free seems to work better for me than
the one with acetone

Add an "l" to the end to make it .html :-)

Great article, but I haven't been able to find the pens! The folks
at Michael's don't have a clue what I'm asking about. :-(

Yeah, Michaels won't have it. You'll have to find some art stores on
the web, order it from Chartpak, or ask a local art store to get it
for you. In Atlanta you can get it a Pearl Art Stores. Don't know
about other places though.

Yeah, don't bother with Michael's for many of the letterboxing supplies. I found they also do not have carving tools or the Speedball "pink stuff" -- only the ready-made stamps, and both kinds of ink; dye-based and pigment-based. They also have art paper booklets. Need art supply stores for most of this stuff, not craft supply. --lunaryakketyact

Perhaps it depends on the size of the Michaels?
I found a choice of carving tools and a choice of media, including pink
stuff, along with good "how-to" instructions at our local Michaels in
Dallas.
Now if only they sold "artistic ability" and "talent" I'd be all
set.;-)!!

We must be fortunate then as the Michaels in our area all carry the pink stuff, the carving nibs and handles and
all. Just lucky I suppose.

Same here. That is where I picked up my supplies when I first got into
letterboxing.... doesn't mean that I've gotten any better at carving
stamps though. LOL

The Michael's I go to has the Speedball tools and pink carving
material in a different area than the rubber stamps & inkpads. On the
other side of the store with the drawing pads, and (I think) pen & ink
stuff. They seem to divide their goods into a crafty section where
the rubber stamps and scrapbook things are, and a fine art section.
Maybe other Michael's are the same.

I know our Michael's carries some speedball stuff... but not the stuff
for carving, but for writing. That is in the area with the art section
(drawing pads, etc). But, the best you can find for a carving medium is
the little erasers that you use when drawing.

Also, you can draw the picture on a piece of paper with pencil, then lay it on the eraser and rub the back. The pencil comes off onto the eraser. Low-tech and analog, but it works. It's a nice start if you don't need lots of details. Also, I'm pretty cheap.

Our Michael's carries the pink stuff in a kit with the blades and handle. Maybe we need to lean on them a little to get in packs of just the pink stuff. I do believe that it will always be known as 'the pink stuff'.

That's because "Michael's" isn't an _arts_ store, it's _crafts_ store.
You need to find an actual arts store. If you can't buy a canvas and
easel there, you're not in the right place. :D

Try http://www.hyatts.com "Hyatt's -- All Things Creative" That's
where I bought mine.

I've found Hobby Lobby to be better than Michael's in
terms of merchandise. Still not great...but since I'm
in a small town and have to drive to the next town
larger to get to either Michael's or Hobby Lobby (much
less a REAL art store!), I can live with it. I
wouldnt' know what to do with myself if I ever found a
store with more supplies than I could actually buy! I
generally clear the shelves of carving media at Hobby
Lobby and Michael's...
